Tiny Beach House On The Water

Situated shoreside on Orcas Island is this beautiful tiny beach house.  For those not familiar, Orcas Island is one of the larger San Juan Islands which are located in the Northwest corner of Washington State. Orcas Island is not named for the orca whale, but for this gentleman…”Juan Vicente de Güemes Padilla Horcasitas y Aguayo, 2nd Count of Revillagigedo, the Viceroy of Mexico”  Pretty impressive!  He sent an exploration expedition to the Pacific Northwest in 1791.

Whatever the history, this is a supremely welcoming little cabin called “The Boathouse”.

This is actually a vacation rental cabin situated right on the beach of a protected bay.  The online brochure states: “You’ll be able to step off your spacious deck onto Orcas’ finest no-bank, smooth pebble beach – you’re truly just a couple strides from high tide!”  I’m hooked!

This little beauty was an actual boathouse for a resort at one time. Then the owner, Mike Fischer, re-imagined it into an eco-friendly hideaway.

There is custom-made furniture throughout including a headboard made of teak reclaimed from an old boat.  The cabin is a very private spot decorated with beach stone door knobs and hooks, and aged rough-sawn millwork.

And have I mentioned the view?  Well, take a look! There are water views from every angle.  This place is a vacation rental if you’re interested.  I’d love to visit, but I’m afraid I’d never want to leave.
